The celebrations took place at Saint John the Baptist Catholic Church, Mapeera Nabulagala (in Rubaga Division)

The Catholic Church on Sunday (June 25) marked 138 years of the first Catholic Eucharistic celebration in Uganda.

The celebrations took place at Saint John the Baptist Catholic Church, Mapeera Nabulagala (in Rubaga Division) where the first mass was celebrated by the White Fathers led by Monsignor Livinhac and Fr. Simeon Lourdel Mapeera on June 25, 1879.

Pilgrims from various parts of the country graced the function, during which the parish of Nabulagala also marked 10 years of its inception.

The celebrations were led by the Metropolitan Archbishop of Kampala, Dr. Cyprian Kizito Lwanga. He was assisted by the Very Rev Fr. Richard Nnyombi, a senior priest of the missionary society of White Fathers, Fr. Bernard Choma, the parish-priest of Nabulagala, and several other priests.
