Kampala Archdiocese to celebrate 50 years

The disclosure was made by the vice pastoral coordinator and Entebbe Vicariate vicar, Fr. Joseph Ssebayigga at Rubaga Cathedral on Sunday.

Kampala Archdiocese is set to celebrate its 50th anniversary on November 29, 2017.

 

The disclosure was made by the vice pastoral coordinator and Entebbe Vicariate vicar, Fr. Joseph Ssebayigga at Rubaga Cathedral on Sunday.

A number of activities have been lined up including Virgin Mary moving around in 65 parishes of the archdiocese. 

Kampala archdiocese was established on August 5, 1966.  The Holy See joined together what was part the Diocese of Kampala and the Archdiocese of Rubaga and created the Archdiocese of Kampala.

At the same function, over 300 people converted to Catholicism and now await baptism that will take place on Easter Eve.

The Holy Mass was led by Vicar General of Kampala Archdiocese, Msgr Charles Kasibante who represented the Archbishop of Kampala Dr. Cyprian Kizito Lwanga.

"On behalf of the archdiocese, archbishop of Kampala and the Catholic Church at large we welcome you. Priest will guide you spiritually," Msgr Kasibante said.

He was assisted by Pastoral coordinator Fr. Mark Richard Ssajjabbi, Fr. Joseph Kirumira the parish priest of Mpala, Fr. John Vianney Mugabo the Dean of Entebbe, Cathedral Administer, Fr. Joseph Mary Bbuye, vice chancellor, Fr. Joseph Sserugga among others.   

A 23-year- old Romie Masaba, of from Bugonga Entebbe said:  “My mother approves my baptism. I love God and I know He loves me.”

Moses Dhikusooka, 27, a resident of Wakiso who converted from Islam said: “I converted and nobody inspired me. I realized that the Catholic Church fits my philosophy.”

23-year- old Mariam Nabalumba, a resident of Busega said: “I always told my parents who are Muslims that I want to convert to Catholicism. I attended Catholic primary schools and modeled me.”

Divine Mercy day is commemorated in remembrance of God's great message conveyed through Sister Faustina of Krakow, Poland, as God revealed the pattern of Christian perfection based on trust in God. Saint Mary's Cathedral Rubaga, commonly referred to as Rubaga Cathedral, is the parent cathedral of the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Kampala, the oldest Roman Catholic diocese in Uganda. In 1914 the missionaries began constructing a modern cathedral at Lubaga (Rubaga). Construction was completed in 1925 and St. Mary's Cathedral Rubaga was consecrated on 31 December 1925.
